British Para-Swimming International Meet 2017

Chippenham ASC had Jamie Edwards competing in the British Para-Swimming International Meet 2017, held in Sheffield on 27th-30th April.

This was a great experience for Jamie being around the International and GB Swimmers, the amazing atmosphere, and watching the new talent being selected for the GB team.

Races at British Swimming Competitions for S14 swimmers are only 100m Breaststroke, 200m IM, 200m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and just introduced at this meet 100m Butterfly. Swimmers with the S14 classification can swim in 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle heats but are not allowed through to the finals.

There were 3 finals in each event, 2 world class and 1 British.  To go through to the World class finals the swimmer has to have an IPC classification (which you get if you are in the GB Team). The British finals were for the GB club swimmers. All races were Multi-Classification and results were by Disability Points.

Jamie competed in a total of 7 races and swam an incredible 5 PB's. A great achievement at such a world class event in a long course pool. Jamie made 2 British finals; 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. He won a bronze medal in 100m Backstroke, amazing!

Congratulations Jamie!
